MAGNOLIA, BRICK-LOK, FLORIDA SUPER MASONRY MIXING INSTRUCTIONS
MASONRY MIXING INSTRUCTIONS
In accordance with the ASTM C270 proportion specification, batch one bag of Argos Masonry cement to 2 1/4 to 3 cubic feet of damp, loose masonry sand complying with ASTM C144. Use potable water. Add approximately 2/3 of the water followed by 1/2 of the sand, and all of the cement. Then add the rest of the sand and water. Continue mixing for 3-5 minutes. Re-tempering is permitted to maintain consistency on the mortar board.HOT WEATHER CONSTRUCTION
Within specified time limits, mortar shall be retempered to maintain workability. To maintain consistent mortar color, the mortar/sand ratio, water content, time of tooling, protection and curing conditions must also be consistent. Retemper colored mortar cautiously to avoid color changes.
COLD WEATHER CONSTRUCTION
Protect all masonry material from rain, frost and snow. Heat the sand and mixing water as required by ASTM C270. Do not tool joints before they are thumbprint hard. Protect newly laid masonry from freezing.
COLOR CONSISTENCY
Sand color has a significant effect on the finished color of mortar. Moisture content of joints at the time of tooling and moisture content of masonry units will also greatly affect the finished color of mortar joints.
CLEANING
Cleaning colored mortar requires special attention. Muriatic acid is not to be used to clean walls built with cement mortars. Follow recommendation of masonry unit manufacturer to clean masonry.
