NRMCA competition features five Argos drivers
Argos sent five drivers to compete at this year’s National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) Truck Driver Championship, which hosts the very best mixer drivers from all over the country in this annual competition.
Our drivers who competed in the event were Tim White from our Downtown Fort Worth Plant (Texas), Robert Guerra from our Arlington Plant (Texas), Vincent Stanish from our Prosper Plant (Texas), Lee Pierce from our Cumming Plant (Georgia), and Kenny Ainsworth, who is our driver trainer for our market in Atlanta, Georgia. To qualify for the national competition, these drivers competed and won the Argos Driver Skills Championship for their respective states.
Hosted in Washington D.C. this year, the big event kicked off on Friday night with a drawing to determine the order in which the 87 participants would compete in the obstacle course. The actual driving portion of the competition took place the following Saturday morning. The driving portion of the competition included a right hand turn, backing stop, forward stop, stopping on a scale, parking next to a curb and approaching a railroad crossing. The course also included a reaction time test, truck inspection and multiple bonus events. The last portion of the competition on Saturday involved a written test to challenge the driver’s knowledge of U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
The event concluded on Sunday night with a dinner to not only honor the participants, but to honor the men and women all over the country that operate concrete mixer trucks.
Congratulations to our five drivers who not only represented our company at this national event, but demonstrated a commitment to safety, excellence and being the best at what we do.
