Three Argos Drivers in Top Four at the Georgia Ready Mix Driver Skills Championship

Competition tests written knowledge, inspection and driving skills

Three Argos drivers from the greater Atlanta area took three of the top four spots at the Georgia Ready Mix Concrete Association’s (GRMCA) Driver Skills Championship: Kenny Ainsworth, our Atlanta Driver Trainer, took home first place at this year’s competition; followed by Lee Pierce, second place, from our Cumming Plant; and Orlando Hawkins, fourth place, from our Cumming Plant. Kenny and Lee will go on to represent the state of Georgia at the national competition in Maryland on September 29, 2018.

The GRMCA Driver Skills Championship competition consists of three separate elements: a written test, a pre-trip vehicle inspection, and a driving skills course. The written portion of the competition is based on the Concrete Delivery Professional (CDP) manual produced by the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA). The pre-trip portion of the competition consists of each contestant performing a vehicle inspection and to identify defects that have been put there for the competition.

For the driving skills course, participants compete in a vehicle of their choice (front or rear discharge). The driving course consists of tight turns, backing up and other obstacles. Scores from each part of the competition are tallied by an independent panel of judges from the Georgia Department of Public Safety to produce a total score.
