Proceeds used to buy necessities for families in need
For the second year in a row, the Martinsburg Cement Plant is hosting a silent auction to help raise money for less fortunate families. Last year, employees raised more than $3,000 for local families, and this year, they are expecting to top that number.
Donations for the silent auction come from vendors and employees and are displayed in the main lunch room, along with the bid sheets. Over the course of four days, employees can bid on the items, with the highest bidder at the end of the four days winning the item.
All proceeds from the auction are used to buy necessities for local families in need. The children that they support are encouraged to write letters to Santa, so that the plant can use the money to purchase what they children really want for Christmas, and they work with the parents to see what is needed for the home, like groceries, winter clothes, hygiene products, shoes, and a few toys.
All presents are wrapped and labeled from Santa, and employees try to deliver the items on Christmas Eve, so they can be under the tree in time for Christmas day.
